Silt-free dam and Sedimentary agriculture

About This Initiative

Silt-Free Dams & Silt-Enriched Farms

Saraswati Sevabhavi Sanstha has been involved in implementing the concept of Galmukt Dharan and Galyukt Shivar under the Government of Maharashtra. The initiative focuses on activities related to removing accumulated silt from water bodies and making use of the available silt for agricultural and community-level development.

At the grassroots level, such activities provide an opportunity to connect water-resource management with the needs of local communities. The work encourages community participation and highlights the importance of effective management of available natural resources for rural development.

The Galmukt Dharan and Galyukt Shivar concept also reflects the importance of improving the usefulness of existing water resources and supporting agricultural areas through appropriate field-level activities. By working directly with communities, the organization participates in development activities that connect natural resource management with rural livelihoods.

The photographs from this initiative document the field-level implementation of the Galmukt Dharan and Galyukt Shivar concept. They provide a glimpse into the activities carried out under the initiative and the participation of people at the community level.

Community Participation

Community participation is an important part of implementing the Galmukt Dharan and Galyukt Shivar concept at the grassroots level. The involvement of local communities helps connect development activities with the practical needs of villages and the people who depend on natural resources for their livelihoods. Through direct interaction and field-level engagement, the initiative creates opportunities for community members to understand the importance of water and soil resource management and participate in activities taking place within their surroundings.

Working at the community level also helps bring together local knowledge, participation and collective effort. People living in rural areas have a direct connection with agricultural land, water resources and the surrounding environment. Their involvement in activities related to water bodies and soil resources can therefore contribute to greater awareness and encourage a sense of shared responsibility towards the management and productive use of natural resources.
